Job Description

Responsibilities
- Maintain regular contact with client to accommodate and anticipate needs
- Identify opportunities for PSI services; monitor stakeholder activity and legislative/regulatory proceedings, etc.
- Develop the right messaging for legislators and key stakeholder groups; Develop communications materials with client (i.e. meeting minutes, memos, agendas, etc.), including PowerPoint presentations, issue papers and other materials
- Draft messaging, including social media outreach, grass-roots manuals, press releases, media advisories, talking points, opinion editorials, newsletter columns, and other media-related materials
- Create presentations for internal and external client relations. Assemble materials and information for client as needed
- Build understanding and knowledge of client’s business and competitive environments; apply this info in preparing and presenting strategically focused programs and recommendations
- Develop full range of materials including media materials, byline articles, speeches, and client correspondence
- Implement and utilize social media in support of overall communication objectives
- Facilitate teamwork within account team, coordinate team resources, and serve as a mentor to junior staff and create opportunities for junior staff to take on more responsibility
- Motivate team members by promptly reviewing work and providing constructive feedback
Requirements and Preferences
- Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience primarily in one or more of the following areas: media relations, public relations agency, campaigns/politics, public policy/affairs, community relations, government agency or other government-related experience, journalism, think tank, or strategic communications firm
- Advanced writing skills and demonstrated experience with Associated Press (AP) writing style and social media; Strong oral, research and writing skills and deep understanding of communications processes are mandatory
- Strong secondary research skills, including experience with and knowledge of online database systems such as Factiva, Google, Thomas.gov, OpenSecrets.org, U.S. Census database, Media Map online, etc.
- Can work independently, with limited oversight, on multiple projects
- A creative thinker with aptitude for rapid advancement
- Successful completion of Public Strategies’ writing test
- Strong, positive interpersonal client skills; keen analytical and problem-solving skills
- Extensive time-management skills; ability to remain calm in a fast-paced, rapid response environment; simultaneously manage multiple projects and respond in a timely and professional manner to client requests or needs
- Demonstrated team-player attitude by being flexible and responsible
- Self-motivated starter with high attention to details
- Works well under extreme deadlines
- Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office systems (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access)
A graduate degree and/or more extensive professional experience may be taken into consideration for a more advanced promotion schedule
